PUMPKINS IN FIRST GRADE
Posted October 22, 2014
It would not feel like fall in South Dakota without pumpkins! There is so much you can do with pumpkins, and Mrs. Hayes and the first graders spent time learning from many different pumpkin activities. They enjoyed reading many different fiction and non-fiction texts and writing about pumpkins. They learned about how pumpkins grow in science, and about the importance of pumpkins as food to the pilgrims. Several parents spent time in the classroom helping the boys and girls measure pumpkins in different ways and record their findings. Then there was the excitement of scooping out the pumpkin "guts", counting the seeds, and sending them off to the kitchen where Ms. Teresa roasted them for a snack. Yum! What a wonderful learning experience!
