Alaska-Land of the Midnight Sun

Alaska

Alaska is the most beautiful state to visit with all of its beauty and majestic mountains.  We studied all about Alaska and made an Alaskan booklet to share with our family.  Click on Alaska to visit this state.  It is AWESOME!!!!

Alaska is the largest state and has the fewest

people.  Alaska means “the great land”. It is

the 49th  state and the capital is Juneau.

The eskimo lives in dome-shaped houses made

out of ice when he is fishing.  These houses

 are called igloos.

The state flag is blue with gold stars.  It

has the Big Dipper in the middle and the

North Star in the corner.

The eskimo likes to go in his kayak.  The

kayak is made out of seal skin and is

long and narrow.

The eskimo wears boots made out of animal

skins.  These boots are called mukluks and

are very warm.

The state flower of Alaska is the forget-

me-not.  The state tree is the sitka spruce.

The northern lights are bright lights that

dance in the sky for a few minutes.

A walrus is called a tooth walker.  Its 3 foot

tusks are really giant teeth.  He uses his

tusks to hunt for food and to fight with.  A

walrus has 2” of skin and about 6” of blubber.

Alaskan brown bears are very big.  They live

near the sea and on islands in Alaska.  They

eat grass, roots, plants, and salmon.  They

sleep in the winter.
