September In Review
2007-2008
We
have had a blessed and busy Aug. and Sept. in first grade. We are so glad to welcome our eager and
excited first graders to school. It
has been a fun and creative learning month for all of us. We have 6 boys and 5 girls in our
class.
We
started off on August 20 with a half day of school and our “Back to School
Night” in the evening. We had such a
nice turn out and it was a blessing to meet each parent. The children loved showing their parents
around the room and especially their desk, which will be their new house for
the year. Thank you parents for
taking a helping hand to bring in extra supplies for the school year. It takes us all to educate your
child.
In
reading class we have read lots of new books. We have read the short vowel Curriculum Press readers, started
on the Dick and Jane readers, and lots of books about ocean life, first days
of school and apples. We are enjoying reading lots of poems about apples and
the beginning of the new school year.
Our Bible verses have been about obedience
and we have learned the Lord’s Prayer.
We have had Bible lessons about creation, Adam & Eve, and Noah. We went outside and measured Noah’s
ark. It was 450’ long and 75’ feet
wide. God knew exactly what he was
doing when he told Noah how to build the ark. Learning about the Lord and the
stories in the Bible are uplifting and encourage our walk with the Lord.
In math class we have been working on our
numbers to 100, adding and subtracting to 6, patterning, ordinal numbers,
calendar activities, graphing, number sequencing and applying these math
skills to our daily lives. We had a sweet time doing “Apple Math With
Parents.” We rotated to various learning centers and we learned so much about
apples and applying math principles.
We
work in our language journals daily and do grammar corrections and also write
various stories in our writing journals.
It is so rewarding to see the children read what they write and write
what they read!!!!
Zero the Hero came in and visited us on the
10th and 20th day of school. Zero is our class penguin and he likes temperatures below zero
and anything to eat shaped like zero.
We always sing our Zero the Hero song for him.
We had our candy bar sale kick off assembly
and everyone was eager to get out and sell candy bars to raise funds for
educational items for our school. All
of our playground equipment came from the candy bar sales over the last few
years. It is a playground to be proud
of and the children love all the neat playground equipment.
We made apple juice, apple butter, and
caramel apples in cooking class. We
love eating what we make. We even put
whole cloves into apples and made old-fashioned apple potpourri. We wrote
apple stories, did apple riddles, pop-up apple books, stamped apple prints, and
read tons of apple books.
We
know that Mrs. Hayes loves art as so many of our lessons are correlated to
art projects. We have made lots of
creative writing books and love expressing our creative talents that God has
given us all.
Our
VIP’s for September have been Cadence, Caleb, Elizabeth and Jaedon. It has
been exciting to see all the things that they brought in to share and put up
on the VIP bulletin board. We are all
very important to the Lord and we thank and praise Him for his love for
us.
Our
Star Student for the month of Sept. was Elizabeth. She is a blessing to her classmates and a wonderful helper in
the classroom. I am so proud of each
of the children.
We
celebrated Jaedon’s, Trinity’s, Elizabeth’s and Madison’s birthdays in Aug.
and Sept. We love birthday parties
and the delicious treats that we get to have.
We
went to the Country Apple Orchard and had a wagon ride, played on the hay
bales, had an apple story and drank delicious apple juice. It was lots of fun with our friends.
In Christ,
Mrs. Hayes
