2007

We thank the Lord for His unspeakable goodness to us!!!  We have so many blessings to be thankful for each day.  Give thanks to the LORD for he is good.  Psalm 118:1

We had a great time presenting our Thanksgiving Program, along with Mrs. Lundquist’s class, to our parents and friends. Thanks to our great room mom, Charity H . for arranging our refreshments.  We appreciate everyone coming to share in our time of giving thanks to the Lord. We finished up our Thanksgiving Booklets and we hope you enjoyed having your child read and share the Thanksgiving stories with you.

We traveled to the Pettigrew Museum in downtown Sioux Falls to visit and see the history of Sioux Falls.  We all thought we could live in the beautiful historic home.  Senator Pettigrew collected artifacts from all over the world.

In science class we studied all about the 5 senses and each student brought in the 5 senses to share.  We read books about the 5 senses and did various science projects that incorporated the 5 senses into our learning. The 5 senses are a gift from the Lord and we never take them for granted.

We have been working hard on phonics chart #7 and we had our test over it on Nov. 29.   It has 18 different phonics rules and you can go to our phonics chart page at our web site all the phonics charts.   We have been doing webbing in our creative writing class and it is a fun way to put our thoughts down before we write our stories.

Our Bible verses have been about praise and worship to the Lord and the thankfulness we have in our heart. We also studied the Fruits of the Spirit and want to apply these fruits to our everyday life. We made our Joseph book and the children drew beautiful pictures of Joseph’s life.   We have started JBQ (Junior Bible Quiz) questions over the Bible.

Our Show and Tells were bringing in various phonics sounds each week.  We bought in the short vowels, long vowels, and sh, th, wh, and ch sounds.

We completed the 3rd list of Dolch words and do about 25 new words each month.  These words are so important to know and to be able to spell for application in our creative writing stories.

We read many of the readers from the Margaret Hillert series.  These are my all time favorites for easy readers in first grade.

Thank you so very much parents for all the things that you help your child with at home. I couldn’t do it without your help and prayers. Time goes by too quickly and we need to make sure and hold these early years of learning in our hearts.

In Christ,

Mrs. Hayes
