March News

March has been a month of FAITH.  We have learned beautiful Bible  verses about having faith.  All we need is faith as a small mustard seed and we can move mountains that stand in the way.  The children love to pray for the prayer requests on our “Prayer Board” and are excited to erase the answered prayers.  We are also memorizing the books of the Old Testament. God is so good and we serve a risen Savior.

Fireman Larry came into the class and presented a home fire safety program.  The children received fireman helmets and learned what to do in case they would ever have a fire in their home.

We celebrated Madaline and Cadence’s 7th birthday in March.  Happy birthday to each one of you on your special day.

We finished up with our Burger King Book Club reading.  Congratulations to all the children who read each month and met the reading goals. Reading is so very important and takes you wherever you want to go!!!

We wore green to school on St. Patrick’s Day and made shamrock ice cream.  St. Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland through the sharing of the shamrock story.

We did Potato Math with our parents.  We weighed, measured, graphed and even had a potato-rolling contest in the gym.  We snacked on potato chips and thought math was fun to do when we can eat it.

We made dirt cups and ate worms on the first day of spring.  We read the book, “Spring Green” and wrote stories about the coming of spring.  We especially were thrilled to have the snow in March and thought it was a funny way for spring to act, but then this is South Dakota.

We celebrated Frog Weekwith lots of frog activities.  We read Arnold Lobel books, studied the frog life cycle, drew frogs, had frog projects and had a frog-jumping contest.  We especially enjoyed the Froggy books by Jonathan London.

We took a trip to the downtown public library and had a book video, took a library tour, and played various activities in the children’s library corner.  Reading is so much fun and it is important for the children to see how it unlocks the world to them.

The children earned their “End of the Month Pizza Party”.  We ate pizza, finger jello, applesauce, cupcakes and drink to celebrate earning pizza pieces for excellent behavior.

We read most of the books nominated for the Prairie Bud Award.  Each book was unique and different. Our favorite book was “The Best Seat in Second Grade”. We will see later which book won the South Dakota award.

In Christ,

Mrs. Hayes
