February News

February has been a wonderful and special month.  I especially enjoyed our Bible verses about love.  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)  We serve a God who gave his all for us and all we need to do is love Him.  Thank you Lord for the wonderful love shown to us through your death on the cross.

The 100th day of school was a great success. We spent the entire day doing 100-day activities.  We did everything from math graphing and creative writing stories to jumping rope and cutting out 100 hearts.  We read numerous books about 100 and our favorite book was “The Wolf’s Chicken Stew”.

We did lots of President’s Projects that correlated to our study of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  We are so proud to be an American. We wrote a letter to President Bush and told him that we were praying for him and for our country.  It will be a blessing to get a letter back from him during the summer months.

We celebrated Payton and Jacob’s birthday during the month of February. Birthdays are always so special and we thank the Lord for each day that he gives us.

It was fun to exchange valentines with each other in class on Valentine’s Day.  We played valentine games and our room mom, Charity, always does such a good job organizing our specials.

Congratulations to our five Spelling  Bee finalists.  They were:  Cadence, Caleb, Elizabeth, Noah, Trinity, and Jacob as our alternate.

Congratulations to the first graders who have written to 500 in class.  It was a lot of hard work and each student received 25 happy faces for rising to the challenge of this math task.

February is Health Month and we did a dental health unit and learned all about our teeth and taking good care of them.  We also did a 4-food groups unit and after studying the food groups we made breakfast at school.  It was yummy and the children did a great job of preparing pancakes, sausage, applesauce and juice.

Officer Pottebaum came in and spoke to the class on stranger awareness with the class.  He added a new technique in teaching children how to fight off a stranger physically if the need would arrive. He always does such a good job and the children admire and respect him very much.

February was “Bear Month” and each student was thrilled to take Buddy Bear home with them.  Each child got to write his/her experiences in Buddy’s Journal.  We have been reading Frank Ash books and it is a good learning experience to read from various famous authors’ books.

We started our Junior Achievement program and we are learning a lot about our community from Stephanie.  Junior Achievement is a great program and having others come in and share about our community and how it works.

The children earned their “End of the Month Party” and had a Hibernation Party in the classroom.  We watched bear videos and snacked away.  Bears need to eat a lot when they hibernate!!!!

Congratulations to Jaedon for being our Feb. Star Student of the Month.  Way to go Jaedon!!!!!

In Christ,

Mrs. Hayes
