Flat Stanley Visits Many Friends

We read the book Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown in class and thoroughly enjoyed hearing about Flat Stanley and his adventures of being flattened by a bulletin board while he slept.  He wanted to go on a trip so his parents sent him off to California to visit a friend while he was still flat.  Each child made a Flat Stanley and selected one friend to send him to.   It is a wonderful way to teach children how to write letters, address envelopes and wait anxiously for a reply.

My Letter To The Friend

(Enclosed in the same envelope

Dear Friend,

We have read the book Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown in our first grade classroom.  Stanley is flattened by a bulletin board that falls on him, but is not hurt.  His parents send him to Calif.  to visit a friend.

Each first grader has selected a friend to send Flat Stanley to.  You have been chosen to receive Flat Stanley!!!!

We would like to have you take Flat Stanley with you wherever you go.

Please cut out Flat Stanley and dress him up appropriately to your locale.  We would love to hear about you, where you live, postcards and pictures.  Please send him back to the child within a week so we can see where he has been and what you have done together.  Please put your name and address and the child who sent you Flat Stanley on the back of Stanley.

We will keep a map and book of where Flat Stanley has been in our beautiful world.  Flat Stanley is on our first grade web site under Internet Projects.  The address is:

www.cceschool.org/hayes

You can also see other fun activities that we do in our classroom.

The Flat Stanleys will be on display in our classroom.  Please return Flat Stanley and any other items that you would like to share to the child who sent him to you.

In Christ’s Service,

Mrs. Hayes

Listed below are some of the pictures, letters and fun souvenirs that we received of Flat Stanley from the various friends who kept him in their care. We visited www.mapquest.com to find out the number of miles each of our Stanleys traveled.  Flat Stanley was very busy!!!!
